LEARN HOW TO GET STARTED

3 STEPS:

  1. Read and understand the Terms and Conditions for the Supplement OWL. You will need to first register, or log in if you are already registered. More on step 1.

  2. Learn what product and label information must be submitted to the registry.

  3. Determine the best method to submit labels to the Supplement OWL:
      • Upload Service
      • DSLD Extract (Conversion from the ODS Dietary Supplement Label Database - DSLD)
      • Self-Service

STEP 1

Read and understand the Terms and Conditions for the Supplement OWL.

First, you will want to review and sign the Terms and Conditions (T&C) agreement that provides your consent to include your company’s products in the registry. The T&C contains a description of the relationship between marketers and manufacturers of finished dietary supplements (“the participants”) and UL, the company managing the registry and its contents. In order to review and sign the T&C, you must first register, or log in if you are already registered. Once you have signed the T&C you can begin the process of uploading labels.

If you prefer not to review and sign the T&A electronically, contact UL at LST.OVP.SupplementOWL@ul.com and request a copy.

There is no charge to participate in the Supplement OWL, providing all your label data electronically—it’s FREE! Participation in the Commercial Data Exchange (CDX) feature of the OWL allows for uploading of additional business information intended for a B2B audience and is available for a fee of $25 per product entry. Regardless of which method you use to upload and your participation in the CDX, completion of the T&C is the first step to getting your products into the registry.

STEP 2

Learn what product and label information must be submitted to the registry.

Participation in the Supplement OWL is free—all the information fields in the OWL database are required to be completed for participation. Inclusion of additional product information and supporting documents in the Commercial Data Exchange (CDX) is optional and requires payment of a fee of $25 per product entry.

Companies wishing to participate in the Supplement OWL should be prepared to provide the following fields of information for each label entered into the registry:

STEP 3

Step 3: Determine the best method to submit labels to the Supplement OWL.

There are three options for submitting your company's labels: 1) Upload Service; 2) Conversion from the ODS Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); or 3) Self-Service.

Option 1: Upload Service

Utilize a service vendor who will provide this turn-key service using your company's labels. The data needs to be in a .CSV file for uploading Here are two companies offering this service for a small per-label fee are:

Please note before you can begin work with these companies, you must register (or log in if you are already registered) and sign the Terms and Conditions Agreement.

Option 2: Conversion from the ODS Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD)

If your company’s products are already listed in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD)—accessible here—you may be able to relocate that information to the Supplement OWL by mapping the data to our system. A couple words of caution though: The Supplement OWL contains several data points that are not in the DSLD. Thus, your company will be required to enter the information into the missing required fields to complete the entries.

You will need to register (or log in if you are already registered) and sign the Terms and Conditions Agreement. Once you sign the Terms and Conditions, the next steps will be provided for this option.

Option 3: Self-Service

Product information may be manually entered into the template spreadsheet. This option may be time-consuming, so is best suited for companies with a limited number of products. You will need to manually enter data fields and file names for label pictures and product pictures. A downloadable Worksheet Template will help you determine what information is required. See video for details.

If you would like to execute this option, please register (or log in if you are already registered) and sign the Terms and Conditions Agreement. Once you sign the Terms and Conditions, the next steps will be provided for this option.
